Ryan and I have been talking about where we would like to have our rehearsal dinner. We are huge fans of Fireworks, so I called them and they don't take reservations on Fridays or Saturdays. We were pretty bummed about that because it's right down the road from our church, and the food is awesome! But we thought of a few more places and called them also.
One of them was Famous Daves, something low-key and fun. However, they don't have room for our group, which is about 50, in the actual restaurant. They said they could cater out if we found someplace else to have it. They suggested Pine Lake Golf and Tennis because it's inexpensive and you can bring in your own drinks. I thought that sounded good at first, but then I got to thinking about it and it seemed like more of a hassle to bring in our own drinks,so I decided against that.
I have been to a few reherasal dinners at Lazlo's in the Haymarket and it has always been very nice, so I decided to call them. They have the rehearsal dinners upstairs in your own little area with your own bar, and it's big enough to hold all of us! It will be very convenient for those people staying at Embassy Suites, where we have a block of rooms, and for me as well since I'll probably also stay there the night before the wedding. We get to choose 3 dishes from Lazlo's catering menu and have our guests RSVP which they would like to have and it's all ready to go when we get there. It will also be a great place to hand out gifts to our attendants and others involved in the wedding, to make toasts, and to show our appreciation to everyone without having to shout over people in the restaurant. I think it will be perfect!
One of the best things about my job is the fantastic vendors NWD gets the opportunity to work with. Heather Artz at JMISKO is no exception. Yesterday I stopped in and got a hydrafacial with Heather, and it. was. AMAZING. A bonus: the hydrafacials are on special until the end of September--normally $125 and now only $85!
EVERY bride should get one of these facials from Heather. They're completely relaxing and you will look absolutely radiant after. These facials would also be great (and much appreciated) gifts for your bridesmaids. Bridesmaids Dresses: Making Lemonade out of Lemons
I had a vague idea in mind for bridesmaids’ dresses while shopping for my own dress: plum-colored and preferably separates of some sort or different styles to accommodate the various shapes and sizes of my bridesmaids. Not everyone looks good in the same dress, and I wanted my girls to feel good in what they were wearing -- even if they couldn’t wear it again.
I had brought a picture from a magazine with me to gauge the color, and luckily, I happened to find a sample dress from Mackenzie Michaels the exact color of the picture. I tried on the dress to see how it fit, and it was a very flattering strapless top, long skirt with several little pick-ups in it and a black sash. Formal, elegant and gorgeous!
There's just not enough to say about this wedding from Dwyer Photography. The lighting, the lounge, the chair covers, the cake, the flowers...everything is luxurious and beautiful.
Today's marriage advice comes from Renae (who just celebrated her 15th anniversary with her husband). She offers up some counsel for avoiding fights about the in-laws:
"Always speak kindly about your spouse's family, just as your spouse should always speak kindly about your family. You each love your families and it hurts to hear anyone speak negatively about them. And know that you will stand on peaks and walk through valleys, but as long as you do both of these side-by-side, all will turn out well!"
Congrats on the anniversary, Renae! Hopefully 15 years from now we will have many brides who read this blog sharing their own advice for a successful marriage.
