Bride Blogger

Planning a wedding is at times like being in the Army.  You’re constantly on the hunt for something.  Who do I talk to?  Where can I find this?  Do I have enough supplies?  Will my rations hold out?  Who can I delegate this to?  Will this mission be a success?!

To give a SITREP (situation report), the Operation Wedded Bliss is green on all counts and the commander (myself) is still somewhat sane.

What has been accomplished in a the time period of ONE month:

·         Engagement Announcement to local newspaper…that would be a go for 14 Feb.

·         Save-The-Dates made and mailed…thank you to my soon-to-be sister-in-law, Lisa!

·         Ceremony Venue booked…at the gorgeous St. Vincent de Paul Church.

·         Reception Venue booked…the Qwest Center has a wonderful point of contact, Abby Johnson, who was more than helpful.  I am so excited to work with her!

·         Dress found…I won’t divulge it here but I can say that it’s breathtaking, white, and strapless with absolutely no adornment.  I love it!

·         Rehearsal Dinner Venue booked…the party will be at the Upstream’s downtown location.  My fiancé is looking forward to the locally brewed beer.

·         Photographer found…so thrilled to be working with Toby from Toberlin Photography!  He is being so accommodating and helpful.  Both Mark and I loved his work and can’t wait to see how he captures our wedding day.

·         Bridal party made…and it’s going to be quite the party!  My only brother, Taylor, is going to be my Man of Honor to mix it up a bit.  All the bridesmaids are choosing their own dresses (short and black) but keeping with the theme I gave them. 

·         Baker booked…JoEllen Simon from Simply Elegant Wedding Cakes is going to making my dream come true.  My maid of honor, Karen, found this stunning cake in Real Simple Weddings.

There is still so much to do, though!  All the “big” things have been conquered; now it’s a matter of the details.  What am I in the hunt for currently?  Shoes and a veil.  I am scouring the Internet in search of a pair of 4+ inch yellow heels and a birdcage veil or feather hair clip.   Operation Wedded Bliss commences in 101 days!  I better be ready!

Bride Blogger: Kayley Obermeier

Anyone planning a wedding knows it is literally a fulltime job. Except you don’t get a paycheck every two weeks. After getting engaged, my stress level shot through the roof. After the initial “Oh my gosh, I have no clue where to start!” moment, I took a deep breath and got organized. Seriously organized.

First, I bought a blank, little notebook (and naturally, it has an adorable floral motif on the cover) that I carry around with me everywhere. Trust me, you will thank yourself when you have a genius idea, write it down in your “idea book”, and reference it later. Mine is full of websites, recipes, and vendors along with ideas like “Centerpieces: curly willow, lunaria, and hydrangea” and “Signature drink: Lemon Drops!”.

I also save any photo that piques my interests in organized folders on my laptop. My wedding colors are black, white, and yellow (and no, I am not an Iowa/Missouri fan) and this idea board (from Project Wedding) captures what I envisioned perfectly.

My fiancé’s talented sister-in-law, Lisa, made our save-the-dates. I would highly recommend finding family members and friends who are willing to offer up their talents. Lisa captured exactly what Mark and I had in mind, and we loved the final result!

The best stress reliever though (besides a cocktail) is building a support system and not tackling everything on your own. Being a very Type-A person, I struggle with control issues; meaning, I like to be the one making the decisions. Planning a wedding in what is now 4 months has led me to delegate and ask for help. My bridesmaids have stepped up to the plate and offered up wonderful ideas and suggestions. My amazing mother is my go-to woman. She has met with every vendor I’ve suggested and has communicated my ideas beautifully. Lastly, my fiancé Mark consistently asks me for lists of things he can help with (where he can rent his suit, honeymoon ideas, which photographers to call, etc.). All of this takes so much pressure off my shoulders and allows me to enjoy being a bride-to-be!

So take a moment to breathe, gather your thoughts, write down what you truly want, and get organized! Make every moment of this process fun because it will be over before you know it!
