Inspiration Board #9: Raspberry and Lime

>> Monday, March 29, 2010

This custom inspiration board makes me ready for summer! This bride is planning a summer wedding with fuschia and black as her primary colors, and she also loves the way lime green looks with fuschia. She's looking for something elegant and classy with lots of bright colors. She's also not afraid of DIY projects, so with all that in mind, this is what I came up with.

Bride Blogger Kayley: Invitations and Honeymoon Plans

>> Thursday, March 25, 2010

Less than two months to go!

My future sister-in-law graciously offered up her creative talents and made the wedding invitations. They are so amazing! Mark and I share the same taste and that means the simpler, the better. I love how crisp the invites are, how everything pops but is still elegant. I came across these King and Queen of Hearts stamps at the post office and spent a small fortune on them. They proved to be the not-the-norm wedding stamp and a clever little detail. I was so proud of myself for having a Queen of Hearts of the outside envelope and a King of Hearts on the RSVP envelope. So cute!

The final result!

The sad part: the US Postal Service is holding some of them hostage! I literally had to pace back and forth in my kitchen because I was so peeved. Some invitations were mailed to their destinations no problem, others were told they needed MORE postage. My take, the Postal Service is on a power trip. I am not the least bit pleased.

What else was tackled last week? The honeymoon! Mark and I toyed with the idea of going to Tulum, Mexico. Not only is it gorgeous but also off the beaten path from Cancun or Cozumel. Since I put Mark in charge of all honeymoon planning, he surprised me with the news that he found $617/person tickets to Barcelona. What?! I did a little jig in my cubicle in celebration. We purchased them immediately! I cannot wait to spend nine glorious days driving up and down the coast of Spain, visiting vineyards and beaches. Ever since my first Spanish class in 7th grade, it’s been a dream of mine to go to Spain. So exciting! Sorry Tulum, maybe another time.

Bride Blogger Bailey: Music & Lighting!

>> Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Back to Nebraska! This past weekend I was able to FINALLY make it back to Nebraska. I hadn't been back since November and I needed to get back to get final details done with the wedding plans.

We were able to meet with our wedding coordinator at the Lied Lodge to go over both wedding and reception details. We also did a food tasting. I had never done this before and it was pretty fun. Lots of great food! We decided on lemon herb chicken and pork loin for our main dish! :)

We also met with our DJ, Jeff from Prime Time Music and Entertainment. We are very excited to be working with him! He has really emphasized how much he wants to make the wedding music about us and our families. He even wanted us to talk to our parents about what music they played at their weddings or what was "their song" back in the day. I thought this was a great way to make everyone feel important and to make it all very personal.

Then we met with Marlene with Country Elegance. Its a family business and they do all kinds of wedding decorations! I contacted her to hang lights in the barn for our wedding. I knew exactly what I wanted so it was just a matter of finding someone who could do it. I wanted round bulbs, not the twinkle lights! I sent her a few pictures, we went to the barn, and they got the job. They had great ideas on what to do and what not to do and I look forward to working with them. I know this will be one detail that will make a world of difference. These are a few of the pictures I sent her for what I wanted with the lights!

Bride Blogger: Kayley

>> Thursday, March 18, 2010

After some Army Intel training, I’m finally back to the civilian world of high heels and being able to wear my hair down. It feels fantastic! What else feels fantastic? My fiancé Mark is not being sent to Dubai after all! His bosses have decided to send someone else instead and keep him here in Houston. Thank you so much to all those who sent me such encouraging and hopeful messages! I was quite overcome with your sincere, kind words.

In other news, Operation Wedded Bliss takes off in 65 days! Oh my goodness, I am beyond excited! There is so much to be done between now and May 22nd but I’m finding that being resourceful is allowing me to check many items off my to-do lists.

Tidbits:
-I found this amazing site: adorn.com, a legit diamond jewelry rental website! One of my coworkers used it for her wedding and recommended it to me. I signed up and emailed a style consultant (What a fun job title?!) who promptly replied back. She asked me what my dress looked like and recommended jewelry to go with. Being the total girly-girl that I am, I love diamonds and found a pair of earrings that I’ll be wearing on my wedding day! With my military discount, I’ll be renting them for a little over $200. Over 4 carats of twinkling goodness on my ears! If you can, ask for Nadine. She’s excellent!

-For a couple years now, my favorite website for finding unique gifts and odds and ends has been etsy.com. In my search for an alternative to a guestbook, I came across this seller. I absolutely adore this idea of having a Rolodex-like guest book. How unique and creative! I thought about making one myself but then who am I kidding? I am not the DIY kind of girl.
-I follow all sorts of wedding blogs to get inspiration. I came across one called weddingbee.com. In the Classified section I found a photographer in Dallas who is updating her portfolio to all digital and needed couples to take pictures of. For free. I emailed her immediately after reviewing her blog and website. Originally, Mark and I were not going to have engagement pictures taken because of costs. As it turns out, we’ll have beautiful pictures of the two of us in all our pre-wedded bliss! I am so excited to drive up to Dallas for this (it’s next weekend) and at the same time visit family in Dallas and Keller!

What I have to tackle for next week: sending out the invitations and planning the honeymoon! Wish me luck!

-Kayley
