April 2010 Issue is out!

>> Sunday, February 28, 2010

Check out the cover of our April 2010 edition! Sweet Art Wedding Cakes designed the breathtaking cake, and the photography was done by the wonderful Shane & Sunny. This marks the first time NWD has ever featured anything but a bride on the cover, but this cake was so cool, we couldn't not feature it. Also, keep an eye out for another cover this year featuring something other than a bride!

(Please note that while the cover changes bi-monthly, the content in the magazine stays the same throughout 2010.)

I found my wedding shoes this past weekend. They are 4 ½ inches of pure bliss on my feet. Although they’re not yellow as I had originally intended, they are definitely my “Hello, Lover” shoes. I’ve been wearing them around the house because I hate to see them lie so lonely in their box. Thank you Badgley Mischka!

As much joy as my beautiful shoes bring, sometimes life doesn’t hand but rather dumps lemons on you. I found out yesterday that my fiancé, Mark, is being moved to Dubai. In three weeks.

For someone who rarely cries, the tears have been flowing non-stop. Two hours sleep on the couch and I was back at work, trying desperately to think of anything but this. Every second that I have been with Mark has felt perfect, now it feels like everything is being yanked away. I know I need to be positive, to see some good in this, but it’s difficult. It’s painful. It hurts.
Part of loving someone as deeply as I love Mark is wanting them to succeed and be happy. I want Mark to take this opportunity and learn everything he can. I see his potential and it’s become apparent that so does his boss. Is it selfish of me to struggle at finding joy in the situation?
I fly back today for my first bridal shower with friends. I plan on drinking copious amounts of mimosas. Come to think of it, I’ll take those lemons, trade them in for oranges, make my mimosa, raise my glass, and tell life to bring it.
The journey may be rough but at least I have some fabulous heels to help me along the way.

Bride Blogger Bailey!

>> Monday, February 22, 2010

One thing I have continually heard from past brides is that I MUST have a videographer! Brides that I have spoken with have said that they either wish they would have had their wedding videotaped or wish they would have had a professional tape it, not Uncle Joe!

I kept putting this off because Evan, my fiancé, imagined a videographer as someone in his face with a camera. After explaining to him that it won't be like The Real World, I came across A Sound Impression. I was able to watch a few of their video demos, which showed a wide range of what they can capture. Things from the bride and groom getting ready, to the ceremony, to the bouquet toss at the reception!

Evan was quickly convinced, after watching the video demos, that this would be a great way to remember our wedding day! So, I talked with Cali Hlavac, owner of A Sound Impression, and booked it. Check out this video demo below. I look forward to working with her and can't wait till May 28!

I am at a total standstill!  I’ve been searching high and low on the internet for the perfect pair of yellow stiletto heels and an adorable, slightly whimsical birdcage veil but without much success.

A traditional veil is not my taste.  Truth be told, it reminds me of wearing a sheet on my head.  If I am paying someone to make my unruly curls look fantastic, there is no way I am going to hide my hair behind a veil.  Therefore, I love the idea of a birdcage veil.  It’s somewhat of a retro look but so glamorous at the same time.  Having been a fan of etsy.com for a couple years now, I’m drawn to these looks I came across on the website.  So cute!

When it comes to my shoes, I’m picky!  As I should be!  The last episode of Season 4 from Sex and the City has a scene where Carrie walks past a shoe displayed in a window and swoons, “Hello, lover.”  That’s what I’m looking for, my “hello, lover” moment.  It has yet to be found.  Only 93 more days to go!

Bailey the Bride Blogger is back!

>> Monday, February 15, 2010

Wow, that was a lot of alliteration...but we're excited to have Bailey back from her crazy holiday travels!

Back to planning I go! After truly enjoying my holiday season with many travels through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, I returned to the face wedding plans! When looking at the calendar and realizing I only had 4 months to go, I began to worry that I maybe shouldn't have enjoyed my holidays as much as I did. Well maybe not that, but I should have done some planning! So today I sit here and look at my countdown of 109 days till the wedding and couldn't be more excited, yet frantic!

It's all in the details. I have everything booked but now it's those second and third appointments that I need to get to, to go over the details! Since I am planning my wedding from Colorado, it doesn't exactly make it easy to get to those appointments either. But setting dates to get back definitely relieves me of some stress!
So for now I am doing dress alterations and looking for the perfect shoes, veil, and jewelry! Since I can't do anything "traditional" I have found that http://www.etsy.com/ is one of my new favorite websites! I found so many vintage/handmade goods-both gifts for my wedding party and fun stuff for me!

I guess I did get one thing done over the holidays...we were able to head out to Seattle, the home of Brighten Photography! (Check them out at http://www.brightenphotography.com/, they just launched a totally awesome new website!) We went out there to have our engagement pictures taken, and if I do say so myself, they turned out AMAZING! Thank you Ben and Whitney! Heres a peek!

It's time for the 3rd Annual Love on the Run!

>> Saturday, February 13, 2010

If you didn't stop in yesterday, make sure you head over to Porridge Papers (1422 South Street in Lincoln) today between the hours of 11 and 5. Love on the Run is a FREE event! Porridge Papers has a collection of antique typewriters ready and waiting for you to come in and type out a note for someone special. After you have your thoughts in print, roll up your note, place it in a tiny bottle, and leave it with Porridge Papers (along with an address and phone number) so that they can deliver it for you on Valentine’s Day. An added bonus? There will be treats, coffee, and live music!

What really makes this year special is the great collaboration Porridge Papers has done with some other local businesses. Gorgeous posters have been designed by Ella of The Lichen and silk screened by Screen Ink and hung around town. Cookies will be provided by Kristin of The Cup,  Cafe Indigo will be donating Cultiva coffee, and a cheese plate will be donated by Hillis and Company.

So take a little time out of your day to create something memorable for your fiancé!
