Eye Candy

>> Friday, October 30, 2009

Here's a little eye candy for you, courtesy of the uber-talented Lane Hickenbottom of Lane Weddings. Let it also serve as a reminder that fireworks are fabulous any time of year - they don't need to be strictly reserved for July (unless the law says they do; we're not condoning a felony here)!

One week closer to the wedding but still 7 months to go. After getting a lot of the major things done, I am starting to look at the little details. Or not so little...finding a DJ! After some firsthand experience of over-the-top DJing at recent weddings, I know this is more than just finding the right person to hit play to a song. So I need your help! Any recommendations? Just looking for someone that can keep the crowd dancing, the party fun, and nothing over the top! Till next week, have a good one!

Bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces. Flowers are a very important part of the wedding; they tie everything together. From rose petal aisle runners and altar decorations to centerpieces on the tables and special touches on the buffet and cake, they all complete the look. With all these different elements involved with the flowers, I knew it was important to find the perfect florist. I met with Stacy at Petal Creations and I was very impressed. I showed her all my ideas and she was able to take my ideas, style, and budget and make things even better. She brought up ideas that I had never thought about! I know I can trust that on my wedding day I will be able to show up and everything will be looking exceptional with Stacy in charge. I look forward to working with her.

Here are just a few of the ideas that I took to Stacy!

This was a successful yet stressful weekend. I attempted to take on one too many appointments while being back in Nebraska. Although I was able to check off quite a few appointments, questions, and meetings, I was also bombarded with more information than I was prepared for - which I am sure that many of you can relate to! Now I am unwinding and sifting through all the information in hopes of making the best decisions.

Two highlights from this weekend were the cake tasting and looking into letterpress invitation. We decided to go with the Butterfly Bakery as our cake choice. The cakes not only look phenomenal but also tasted fantastic! Linda, the owner of Butterfly Bakery, was very laid back, accommodating, and very easy to work with.  Check out some of her cakes-here's a photo of one of her cakes.

As for letterpress, what is letterpress? Evan, my fiancĂ©, is a graphic designer and this was his one and only request! Letterpress is a style of old fashioned printing that leaves an impression in the paper (in Bailey terms). This unique style is a great way to add something fun and different to your traditional invitation that is sure to grab your guest's eye. Christopher owns Porridge Papers in Lincoln and does all kinds of national business. They also make their own paper along with the letterpress. Christopher was very friendly and even gave us a tour. Definitely worth checking out and we will totally be doing our printing with him! Here are a couple examples of his invitations.

That’s all for now. Good luck with wedding plans and don’t forget to de-stress!

Give Back!

>> Monday, October 12, 2009

A hot trend in wedding favors that gives us warm fuzzies: Instead of giving guests a small trinket they will probably never use, brides and grooms are donating a larger sum of money to a charity of their choice in their guests' honor. We love this idea because you can do something at your wedding that can make a difference throughout the world.

Here are a couple of worthy organizations NWD supports (they're run locally out of Nebraska, but their influence is worldwide): One Cause Lincoln, which is working to build orphanages in Haiti, one of the most poverty-stricken areas in the world. Visit their website to learn more about donating: OneCauseLincoln.org.

Tiny Hands International is another great cause based out of Lincoln, Nebraska - they're working to intercept Nepali women and children at the border between Nepal and India that were unknowingly going to be sold into sexual slavery. They then return the girls to their home or provide shelter for these victims to help them get back on their feet if returning home is not an option.

Another great option with Tiny Hands? The women that stay in their shelter are learning to work and earn wages by making beautiful pashmina scarves, bags, and jewelry...the perfect gifts for your bridesmaids! Visit their website for more information on donating or purchasing the products these women make: TinyHandsInternational.org.
